A better way to conduct ag field trials in 2020

By Ben Gist on January 28, 2020

As you wrapped up last season’s field trials programs, I’m betting you had the same thought as so many other field trials managers: There has got to be a better way.

There is. But before I get to that, let’s look at two reasons that conducting field trials is so very challenging.

One, it’s a hot potato. Who should be managing the protocol? Farmers certainly don’t want to be in the business of collecting data. Their priority (thank goodness) is farming, pure and simple. Everything else takes a back seat. Sales reps don’t want to gather up data, either. They want to be selling. They want to be advising. They don’t want to be pushing farmers to do the impossible. They want to be proving their mettle — staying as far away from spreadsheets as possible.

Two, although I do appreciate a good spreadsheet, it can’t provide nearly the level of organization, standardization, accuracy and accessibility essential to successful field trials. And reporting and analysis? Forget about it.

Clearly, a “better” way to manage field trials would have to overcome a lot of hurdles – existing attitudes, existing problems and existing methodology – which is precisely what CultivatorSuite Trials, a TKXS' software solution, does.

Significantly improved protocol and reporting.

The CultivatorSuite Trials solution eliminates roadblocks historically associated with field trials. Reps don’t have to rely on spreadsheets, they don't have to set reminders in Outlook, and they don’t have to remember the quirks of certain fields or preferences of certain growers. All of that is retained and managed within the tool.

Reporting and analysis are also a breeze with CultivatorSuite Trials. Anyone in your organization with permission – from reps to sales to marketing – can run queries and instantly generate visually compelling reports with maps, graphs and charts. User-friendly and versatile, the tool even allows reps to run reports out in the field; all they’ll need is a tablet and wifi.

Long-term opportunities.

The more and longer your organization uses CultivatorSuite Trials, the more powerful it becomes. Let’s say you’re launching a new product or formulation in the coming year. Or perhaps, entering a new market. Right off the bat, you’ll benefit from CultivatorSuite Trials’ protocol management, improved data collection, and valuable reporting. But then, fast forward three years or so. Now you have historical records. You can use the document repository feature to retrieve data, create presentations, and find relevant photos and grower quotes based on the search criteria desired, because those assets have been "tagged" as they were collected in the system.

Take control of your 2020 field trials.

TKXS is in the business of connecting data, yielding results, and creating demand for agribusinesses. If you'd like to learn more about our CultivatorSuite Trials tool, including how you can begin taking advantage of it this season, I'd be happy to speak with you.
