TJ Vinson, a client experience specialist, joined TKXS in 2018.
1. Describe your role at TKXS
I do work for one of our Fortune 500 ag company clients. Every day, I’m talking to territory managers, retailers, sales reps and growers, making sure they stay informed. Our team does everything you can imagine to keep things running smoothly for our client’s program – even administering their website.
2. What drew you to this business?
I went to an ag school -- NC A&T State. But even though my grandma had a farm, ag was not my interest. I had to take a couple of ag classes, but I got my degree in communication. After graduating, I got into sales. (I even worked for a bit for my dad, but sometimes it’s not a good idea to mix your personal life with our professional life!) A recruiter steered me to TKXS. It seemed like a good opportunity – a good use of my skills.
3. What advice do you wish you’d been given early in your career?
I would tell a younger me – listen to everybody. Even if you don’t think they’re right, even if you disagree, you can learn a little bit from everybody. You don’t have to win every battle; it’s about winning the war. Also, be courteous. People don’t realize it, but sometimes, little things – like saying please or thank you – will take you a lot farther than book smarts.
4. What do you want people to know about TKXS?
Big, Fortune 500 companies with Wall Street mentalities are great, but there’s nothing like working for a smaller company where we’re all on the ground, working together, side by side. We get – and give each other – a lot of accolades. TKXS is like a family company. It’s not all about the bottom line here. People care about you. They want to see you move up. It’s a different vibe for me.
5. If we had a billboard outside our offices, what would it say?
Family, with a little bit of business going on.
